MetaData Import Task error "The page was not displayed because the request entity is too large"

Trying to save changes to 'Vendors and Software' in the MetaData Import Task result in the error "The page was not displayed because the request entity is too large".  I am using IE11, but have had the same results in IE9.  I am using Patch 7.5 SP1 (7.5.3219) but I have had this issue since 7.1.
